Le infezioni materne da virus influenzali possono, anche se raramente, essere causa di varie malformazioni, principalmente interessanti il sistema nervoso; sono state descritte in letteratura: microftalmia, malformazioni dei padiglioni auricolari, ernia diaframmatica, difetti costo-vertebrali, idrocefalia, agenesia del corpo calloso, agenesia cerebellare, agenesia del nervo ottico, agenesia del nervo olfattorio, agenesia del ponte, anomalie dell'acquedotto, danni ependimali.
